Legendary heavy metal band Metallica is currently embarking on their massive M72 World Tour, playing back-to-back shows in each city and treating fans to over 2 hours of headbanging hits per performance. The tour comes to Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium on August 25th and 27th, where Metallica diehards can expect epically long sets from the rock icons.
Metallica kicked off the North American leg of the M72 Tour on August 4th at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Their first show clocked in at a whopping 2 hours and 15 minutes of non-stop Metallica classics and new tracks from their 2023 album 72 Seasons.
The setlist featured fan favorites like “Master of Puppets,” “Enter Sandman,” “One” and “Creeping Death” mixed with fresh cuts like “Lux Æterna” and “Crown of Barbed Wire.” The band took the stage at 8:45 PM and powered through the epic show until 11:00 PM.
Likewise, at their Montreal show on August 11th, Metallica played another marathon set lasting 2 hours and 15 minutes. They’ve proven that even 40 years into their career, they can still deliver extensive, high-energy performances that never let up.
For the Los Angeles shows, Metallica fans can plan for more of the same concert duration. Given the start times of their shows so far, the band will likely take the SoFi Stadium stage between 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM, rocking out until around 11:15 PM each night.
The M72 World Tour is Metallica’s first proper concert trek since 2019, as the COVID-19 pandemic sidelined live events. Now finally back on the road, Metallica is clearly making up for lost time by cramming in 20+ song sets every night.
Each show has been a two-part affair, with the band playing completely different sets with unique openers on consecutive tour dates in the same city. This allows fans to enjoy a fresh Metallica experience if attending both nights.
The extensive 30+ stop North American leg runs until December, with legs in Australia, New Zealand and Europe following in 2024. In total, the M72 Tour comprises a grueling 100+ dates as Metallica circumnavigates the globe through 2024.
Given the sheer duration of the worldwide trek, Metallica has unsurprisingly opted to perform marathon shows every time they take the stage. Each concert is a two-hour-plus singalong, moshpit-fueled event from start to finish.
Judging by fan reactions so far, the rabid Metallica faithful wouldn’t have it any other way. There’s seemingly no such thing as too much Metallica when it comes to their live shows.
The Los Angeles faithful attending the upcoming SoFi gigs can expect blown-out voices and sore necks the next day thanks to Metallica’s non-stop, eardrum-shattering performances as part of their biggest tour ever.
